Muscat: Muscat Municipality reiterated the importance of adhering to approved regulations governing commercial advertisements and signage as part of ongoing efforts to preserve the capital’s visual identity and enhance public safety.
The municipality said advertisements and billboards must comply with designated locations and approved standards, stressing that signage should not obstruct pedestrian movement, affect traffic flow or reduce road visibility.
It also underlined the need for advertising content to reflect public taste and remain free from linguistic and translation errors, warning against the spread of random and unlicensed advertisements that contribute to visual pollution and may pose safety risks.
According to the municipality, rooftop signs are only permitted on buildings exceeding 20 metres in height, while window stickers and promotional decals must not cover more than 50 per cent of the glass surface.
The municipality further highlighted a number of common violations, including installing advertisements without permits, exceeding approved dimensions and failing to carry out proper maintenance, noting that such practices could endanger public safety.
Muscat Municipality said random advertising is not merely a regulatory offence, but also a factor that negatively affects the city’s urban harmony and overall appearance.
